u23 National Team Development Camp
Athletes not invited to the USRowing U23 Women’s Selection Camp in Oklahoma City are encouraged to attend USRowing’s U23 Women’s Selection Development Camp in Ann Arbor, MI. This camp will be run out of the Washtenaw Rowing Center under the direction of Grace Latz and Kit Bennett, with additional rotating guest coaches and developing coaches. The camp will run for approximately four weeks, which will end with racing at USRowing Summer Nationals in Bethel, Ohio. The second (optional) phase through the Washtenaw Rowing Center gives athletes the ability to train for Canadian Henley in St. Catherines, Ontario for the opportunity to race down the course that will host the 2024 World Championships (Non-Olympic Worlds and U23 Worlds).
Camp Purpose and Target Athletes
This camp is a bridge between collegiate rowing and U23 selection camp, with a focus on developing skills, processes, technique, and mindset to give athletes the tools they need to take their rowing to the next level. All rowers will be training and racing in both small and big boat combinations, with an emphasis on small boats (pairs, doubles, and singles).
The top 22 female athletes (20 rowers, 2 coxswains) who were not invited to U23 selection and who have at least one year of U23 eligibility will be invited to this camp to further prepare them for the following year. Remaining spots will be filled based on applications and coaching recommendation for athletes who are between 18-21 years old, who have not yet considered an elite path for themselves but meet or exceed developmentally-adjusted standards. Athletes that do not have an additional year of U23 eligibility may be considered for this camp if space allows. This camp will also reserve spots for athletes cut from U23 selection and for U23 Trials athletes on a case-by-case basis. Invitations are sent via email on a rolling basis from early-April through mid-June until all 22 spots are filled.
